Since this story was in the paper i reckon we should have a poll here, heres the link to the story
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,21507010-662,00.html
I think they have the names round the wrong way under the picture of the two
I think leisel should whatever she feels she wants more, ive never been in that kind of spot so i wouldnt know what to do, im guessing if i knew my relationship was strong, then id go for the gold medal/s.
So what do you think leisel should do? |

Long distance relationships don't work. They just don't. I'd wish them all the luck and happiness in the world, but the odds are pretty stacked against. This is obviously why it's even an issue for them, right? _________________

Definatly go for gold.
Leisel would have worked far too hard for so long to let it all slip, and as we know, swimmers usually retire quite early as well, otherwise she might regret it for the rest of her life.
Plus Marty's a footy player, i'm sure he's good to stay loyal for a long distant relationship.... _________________

It seems to be an issue that should'nt really be an issue.
Surely she can have both. Windemar could remain her major coach, she could train in Brisbane 1 week a month. Train the remainder in Melbourne under an assistant or delegate of his.
He still runs and sets her program can receive weekly/daily videos and such.
She does'nt have to this comfront a horrible decision that does'nt need to be made. |

That's what I thought as well. She could just as easily train his programs down here and spend times up north every now and then. I know she's an olympian but it (and her coach) shouldn't rule her life completely. _________________

The writer of this article cleverly beats this story up. If you look at the direct quotes there is nothing special there.
No reason why she can't train in Melbourne with a new coach with or without the extra guidance of her current coach. At the end of the day she is an elite athlete and the coaches job at this level so more about training planning and athlete management as well as motivator. Very little technique guidance, so there is no reason why this can't be done from distance. _________________ "It would be great to be playing in finals and in teams that are winning all the time, but I chose to come to Richmond" - Nathan G. Maybe someone here could come along and ask her that question at the Werribee President's lunch? _________________

Exactly right, their must be such competion between journalists trying to get the editors favor in giving their stories prime position or even a run in the paper that just about every story gets skewed and beat up by the journalist, then the sub editors who seldom care about the truth have a crack at it beat it up more finally the editor gets their 2 bobs worth at beats it up again. By the end the thing barely resembles what the poor old journalist wrote in the first place. |

so where's the photo dude! I rekon she should tell the coach to stick it. How crap are the officials if the swimmers couldnt even attend a function after all the swimming event stuff.. just bcoz of some stupid 'Dual in the Pool' against USA. Did anyone actually watch most of it? The swimmer peoples could have gone but didnt have to drink or stay long. It shouldn't rule their lives. _________________
