WESTERN Bulldogs' Adam Cooney will face Sydney in Saturday's NAB Challenge match but he and Robert Murphy will play no more than half. Coach Rodney Eade also confirmed that stars Daniel Cross, Matthew Boyd, Daniel Giansiracusa and Nathan Eagleton will not make the trip to Rouse Hill.
Cross walked laps during training at Whitten Oval this morning and Eade said, while he would have played had it been round one, the midfielder will be rested due to a back complaint.
Eade also said that it was always planned to rest Daniel Giansiracusa and Nathan Eagleton from this round of the pre-season while Boyd will remain in Melbourne for a wedding.
On Cooney, who underwent knee surgery during the off season and is also battling groin soreness, Eade said the Brownlow Medalist was no certainty to play in round 1 in 25 days time.
"If he has a hiccup or misses two or three days then we probably wouldn’t risk him. I reckon he’ll be playing football somewhere but whether it’s AFL on a big ground in 35 C heat we’ll have to work that out,’’ Eade said. |
