I heard a person getting interviewed today on SEN with Mark Doran, i think he was someone associated with Champion Data. And they were going through the Brownlow medal and how they would have it standing after 13 rounds, there are only two players currently they believe to be in the running.
Gary Ablett & Adam Cooney, with Ablett leading the race for the medal at this stage. By there predictions for the season so far, Ablett 22 votes & Cooney 15.
Will be interesting to see if Gary does run away with it early on, i think he has probably already got it wrapped up myself.

| you know i think a few of out players might hurt cooney - cross aker boyd migh poll a few threes which would make it harder for him to win can't say ive taken that much notice of abletts season but im guessing he will poll highly |

Yay for the "champions" who have been suspended! If it means that Cooney actually does a Bradbury and wins by default, couldn’t happen to a better bloke… so saying that, I think Ablett Jnr might have the Brownlow cemented if he keeps on current form.
So saying that, what's everyone's opinions on the AFL considering changing the Brownlow the the "best" instead of the "fairest and best"? By far, I believe this is the most disgraceful idea put up in a long time. Players are asked to respect their opponent by playing without malice (Goodes) or incident.
I could care less if a reprimand keeps a Mitchell, a Goodes or a Franklin out of the running. How much easier can the AFL make it on the 'champions'?

That's right, if they can keep a Brownlow off Grant, they can keep it off Goodes.

That's right, if they can keep a Brownlow off Grant, they can keep it off Goodes. |
I'm actually thinking the opposite, the decision to suspend Grant was an utter disgrace, and to me, a player like Goodes or Buddy being ineligible for a reprimand is just as bad, for me, thinking Goodes or Buddy not deserving one because Grant didn't get one is me condoning the Grant decision.
A reprimand is a report not quite worthy of a suspension, but you get ANOTHER reprimand, ANOTHER report not worthy of a suspension, then to be suspended because you didn't quite get suspended twice, is flawed.
It's almost like saying 2 wrongs make a right, and thats simply wrong in my opinion.
We all know Goodes should have been suspended the first time around, his effort on the weekend on Bartram was SOFT, very soft, perhaps a bit of karma? but is that REALLY fair?
Buddy's report, once again, would you be happy if that was a Doggies player, say Cooney does a similar thing, with no real fault of his own, doesn't mean he is not a fair player, yet he'd get a reprimand, not miss a week, yet likely finish with the most Brownlow votes, and like Chris Grant...MISS OUT!
That is so wrong.
THE SOLUTION
You get suspended on merit, such as Barry Hall, THEN, if you get reported, and worthy of being suspended AGAIN, THEN you should have to pay.
He got 7 weeks for smashing Staker, if he gets suspended again, his weeks are doubles, say he gets 2 weeks, he ends up with 4, that makes so much more sense in my opinion, and that way Barry Hall is enaligable because he wasn't fair.

Geelong isn't exactly a "one man band" either. There are plenty of players who will take votes off Junior Ablett. |

Plus Brisbane had an OUTSTANDING midfield and team with Aker, Black & Voss all winning Brownlows.
