Ben Jolley today joined Scott Meyer, Brett Johnson, Jason Cloke, Dean Galea, Patrick Rose and David Stretton in the initial VFL State Squad for the game against South Australia on Saturday 31st May to be played in Adelaide. Jolley was rewarded for his outstanding game against Bendigo on the weekend.
Ben Jolley has been a revelation after being recruited from the Bendigo Bombers he has been Mr Consistent in the midfield each week winning lots of possessions and working very hard to do the team orientated aspects of the game also.
Out of the 7 Seagulls players named only Williamstown Captain Brett Johnson has represented the VFL before. Johnson has been in sparkling form once again in 2008 leading the Seagulls to a 5-1 record going into this weeks away game against Bendigo Bombers. Johnson played in last years State Game against the WAFL kicking 2 goals when the Vics won by a whopping 119 points the 2nd biggest loss in WA's 198 game history. Actually, Jason Cloke also played against WA last year, but was representing Bendigo.
Scott Meyer fresh off his great defensive game against Nick Sautner on the weekend restricting the full forward to 2 goals has named in the squad of 36. Meyer has come along in leaps in bounds this year after he did pre-season with the Western Bulldogs.
Another player to benefit from a pre-season at the Bulldogs has been Patrick Rose who has been a constant threat in the forward line kicking 12 goals for the season and picking up plenty of touches in the midfield.
2006 A. Todd Medallist David Stretton has provided plenty of run each week off a wing and his improvement from Reserves player in 2006 to regular senior player in 2008 is very impressive.
Jason Cloke and Dean Galea two players that returned to Williamstown after playing with the Seagulls in 2006 have been mighty impressive at opposite ends of the field. Cloke has held down CHB and his brave marking has been feature in the early rounds whilst Galea has dominated up forward kicking 15 goals for the season providing a solid marking target and equally dangerous at ground level also.
Two players that were unlucky to miss the initial squad were Midfielder Ben Jolley and Utility Liam Picken both players have consistently been in the Seagulls best each week.
We wish all 7 Williamstown players the best of luck and hope they make the final squad to play the SANFL on Saturday May 31st in Adelaide. We hope it is a repeat of the scoreline last year displayed below. Go the Big V! |

Shows the strength of the Williamstown VFL listed players. Congratulations to all of them. _________________ "It would be great to be playing in finals and in teams that are winning all the time, but I chose to come to Richmond" - Nathan G. Brown |

Ben Jolley has now been added to the Vic squad, and Brett Johnson has been named captain.
The final squad of 24 players will be announced on Tuesday 27/5/08. |

Dean Galea named in the Vic squad cannot even get a game for Willy!
He has the most goals for any Gulls player, yet he found himself in the 2's on the weekend, staggering.
Attitude problems, or just can't fit into the main side? _________________

I think it would be a case of not being able to fit in the senior side. _________________

Looks quite a strong SANFL line up, with ex AFL players Ben Kane [Hawks], Paul Thomas [Essendon], Daniel Schell [Freo], Brent Blackwell [Carlton], Jeremy Clayton [Nth Melb], Ian Perrie [Adelaide], plus Central Districts champ James Gowans, Chambers is also a good strong forward at that level, i believe plays for the Double Blues?. _________________
