Do you think the AFL should start scheduling games on Good Friday?

Is it boring without a game on Friday?
Would it be offensive to hold a match on this day?
Is it just nice to have a public holiday where everything closes down and the majority of people can have the day off and get back to traditional values?

What are your thoughts on this topic?

Was just talking to stu about this on msn.

Im not sure if id like to see an afl match on this day, i mean i dont have a problem with it if they do decide to play one, and if they donated a bit of $$$ to the appeal then id probably find myself going to the game.

I mentioned that maybe an afl all stars game(past players) should play a game at the "G" , maybe get a few tv stars, a bit like the ej whitten game.

Of course the AFL should play a game on Good Friday. Why should 21 million Australians suffer just to please the religious minority?

And please don't associate a game on Good Friday with the RCH appeal in any way. The RCH have basically hijacked Good Friday for their own financial benefit.

Agree.

Besides, religious groups don't mind bombarding non religious people with their views, and try & convert knocking on doors every single day, talk about in your face.

Good Friday Football - BRING IT ON.

I'd say yes, play on Good Friday.

Playing footy has nothing to do with disrespecting Christian tradition. The rugby already plays on the Friday.

Yes, they should play footy on Good Friday. On the topic, I'm getting kinda sick of being told that we need to conform to Christian holidays like that. A perfect example is not eating meat on Good Friday. I had a steak worthy of an eternity in hell, a beautifully tender inch-thick porterhouse, and have been told SOOOO many times how evil I am, regardless of whether I'm Christian or not.

One thing I'll give the Muslims, they don't try to stop us eating pork.

I am not religious, so I don't care if the AFL held a pie eating contest on Good Friday, but to play the devils advocate for the moment, Easter is a public holiday only because of Christianity, so can we blame them if they voice their opinion that AFL shouldn't be plauyed on this day?

Imagine: Having lived a wholesome and good life, went to church every Sunday, raised your kids to be good people and having been a generally great man/woman, you get to the Pearly Gates and are told: "What about that footy match you went to?"

It's not the Sabbath, and there's nothing in the Bible saying you shouldn't do anything on Good Friday except not eat meat, and grieve for the death of Jesus.

Another example of a religious group telling us what we can and cannot do, whether we believe in it or not. Will be interesting to see how young Mr. Houli from Essendon approaches his holy days in the Muslim calendar...

I think Houli said last year that he would continue to play the game despite his beliefs and would make up for it in his own way.
