Round 1 of the new VPL (Victorian Premier League) season has come and gone and left us with many unanswered questions such as:

* How do the defending champions manage to lose with such conviction in the season kick-off against Richmond on Friday night?

* Who's bandwagon will BJAG jump on now that her beloved Sunshine Georgies have been relegated?

* How did last seasons grand finalists Whittlesea manage to get smashed 5-1 by the AIS on Monday night?

* And what are Richmond going to do to ensure the farcical bar queues from the Preston game are eradicated for their next home match?

But lets move onto more tangible things as we take a look at the weekends results.

Richmond 5 - 1 Preston
Frankston 2 - 2 Oakleigh (Welcome back Pines)
Western Suburbs 0 - 3 Coburg (Good start for promoted Coburg)
Altona 0 - 0 Green Gully
Fawkner 1 - 1 Melbourne (Knights come away with a draw)
Heidelburg 2 - 1 South Melbourne (The Greek derby)
Whittlesea 1 - 5 AIS

Which leaves the AIS and Richmond tied for first spot after round 1. Who woulda thought?

Round 2 see's some great clashes headlined by the Preston v. Whittlesea match on Sunday.

After seeing a splendid night of football on Friday night I am tempted to head down again on Friday night. Green Gully one of the powerhouses of VPL in the last couple decades vs. a Richmond side who have performed admirably since receiving promotion to the VPL. Not to mention the German beer and quality, quality burgers at the canteen.

That said I am also tempted to head to the Oakleigh vs. Bergers also on Friday night in Oakleigh (which is close to my home).

At the end of the day I might just stay home and watch the Bulldogs vs. Dons game of AFL this week. I won't be heading to the game because a) I have not attended an Essendon game since the day we were robbed against them and Lloyd kicked a behind after the final siren to tie the game and b) I have banned myself from pre-season matches after some rubbish experiences the last couple occasions (ie. being moved on for standing up vs. Brisbane and the Dog's losing to Carlton).

However I am sidetracked, might give VPL a miss this week but will definately be there for Richmond vs. Melbourne Croatia the week after.

Results from round 2 of the Foxtel Cup (VPL).

Richmond 2-0 Green Gully (The Eagles make it two from two)
Oakleigh 0-0 Heidelberg
AIS 3-2 Frankston Pines (In Canberra)
South Melbourne 1-2 Coburg (Two from two for the Turkish team)
Melbourne 1-1 Altona (After two draws, a big game for the Knights against Richmond on Friday)
Preston 1-1 Whittlesea
Western Suburbs 1-0 Faulkner

The pick of the games for me is Melbourne vs. Richmond at KB reserve on Friday night (8.15 kickoff). I am expecting the Cardozo boys to tear the Knights a new one but time will tell.

Pines vs. Preston in Frankston should be a close one, as will Coburg vs. Oakleigh in Sunshine.

Miron Bleiberg was there on Friday to witness a good game. After Richmond opened the scoring through Catalano, the Knights came back to level with a good passage of play finishing in a well placed finish past the keeper. A fantastic strike seemed to sore like an eagle into the top left corner, only to strike the upright and rebound to a fast moving Pablo Cardozo who headed home. The Knights managed a late equaliser through a penalty and then dominated the last minutes before the whistle to no avail. 2-2.

In other results, Preston beat Frankston at the Pines 1-0, Oakleigh beat Coburg 1-0 at Somers St, AIS took a 1-0 away win against the Bergers, a Curcija hat-trick gave Altona a 3-2 away win over Fawkner and South Hellas smashed Western Burbs 5-0 at BJS.

Whittlsea Green Gully currently playing, but it's AIS topping the table after 3 rounds with 3 wins to their name.

Small Sided Games (SSG) don't involve coaching though Sad

But nah awesome stuff, I hope the children's sake though that they don't have the bar open tongue

In round 5 VPL, Altona and Richmond play out a 1-1 draw which leaves Richmond equal top of the league with Croatia and Oakleigh who both scored wins.

No games until Monday this week.

Big game this Sunday. Preston vs. South Melbourne @ BT Connor Reserve. Should be a massive crowd in attendance.

Other games of note include the match between the top two teams, AIS and Oakleigh, which will be played in Morwell if there are any locals not going to the Bulldogs game.

Fawkner and Frankston clash heads in a relegation battle, whilst Green Gully and Coburg try to get a win to push into the top six.
