Great stuff guys. Looked like a fun day just by some of the pictures of the crowd. Great to see the family and friends all down there in support on what looks like a great day (unless your out there running around!)
Looks like a huge space there to play. I would think that the number of oval sports grounds would be limited in the states but looks like you've found a little gem. Grass looks in excellent condition too all things considered. The local grounds in Melbourne would be in no condition to play during the summer let alone actually green in colour. Fantastic.
Great pictures by both. Your camera must be quite good to take some of those snaps Pat. Very professional, if you haven't already you should share those with the club so they can put them on their website. The only problem is they might ditch you as the runner so you can concentrate on the camera work!
How were the bodies feeling the next day? _________________ "It would be great to be playing in finals and in teams that are winning all the time, but I chose to come to Richmond" - Nathan G. Brown |

yeah they were great shots taken by Pat. hard to get right ones where the ball is being contested too.
the demons normally train at a place called Magazine Park. (havn't been there yet so cant comment)
| Quote: | | When not at Tommy Doyles downing a pint, they can be found at Magazine Street Beach Park. Nestled between the spanning BU Bridge and MIT, and alongside the scenic River Charles, Magazine Park is home to Boston’s largest colony of geese giving the pitch the nickname, “The Goose Dome.” Magazine Park is located off Memorial Drive at the base of the BU bridge rotary. |
but yeah, there's been a lot of rain on and off and humidity and heat so good for the grass. alot different to melbourne i know, where rain has been sparse.
the bodies? still sore but not as bad although the heat took it outta me and i'm sure the players would have felt it the next day too.
all in all a great day had by all though....errrr..., except by philly maybe... _________________ it's OUR turn for a premiership and i reckon 2009 is gonna be it |

There are not really any ovals around here at all. Soccer and American football played of course on rectangles. So most of the places footy gets played are either just open space at parks or in the case of where the Dees played this past week the combined outfields of multiple baseball field complexes.
kicking to the building end and the carpark end.
Here is where the field is in relation to downtown boston.

thanks for the kind words on the pics. It was hard with so much action. My favorite pic is the ruck contest with the cars overhead. the framing was accidental as I was half watching the action through the viewfinder, half as though I wasn't shooting.
Turned out pretty cool I think though.
-oh, and I have shared with the guys already for sure. |

you hit the nail on the head amnesiac with the good pix Pat took. the club already has him pegged as the camera man for the end of season party.
what they do to get an oval out of the field is either place small witches hats to mark the perimiter or use the chalk machine for proper games like last week.
excellent satellite shots Pat. was looking at those today at work... _________________ it's OUR turn for a premiership and i reckon 2009 is gonna be it |

Never considered baseball grounds. Excellent stuff. The ground there really stands out in the satellite picture.
When is the next game? How often do they play in this league? Eg. Weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc.
I would think the financial cost of travel would be a bit of a financial burden. _________________ "It would be great to be playing in finals and in teams that are winning all the time, but I chose to come to Richmond" - Nathan G. Brown |

spider has been training pretty regularly with the team.
I do believe he is actually going to travel to Louisville Kentucky to the Nationals with the team. Its over one of the weekends coming up in October. Hope he gets a game for all his efforts.
My schedule and a cranky back have kept me from going out and actually getting my hands dirty. I have been working on diet and excercize as my back will allow to try to get myself ready to take it on in the spring when they startup again. To date I have dropped 15 pounds, mostly comprised of beer belly.
I have been asked to provide a copy of the GF for the Dees GF party on Saturday afternoon (Boston time) so I better not screw that up. |

the u.s. nationals 2007 Louisville Kentucky
this was a big event because 10 years ago, the first offical australian rules football game was played here.
there were quite a few sides playing and to get through it all in one weekend, the games were shortened to two 20 minute halves and there were four games being played at any one time.
sides from all over the u.s and canada and there were some womens games being played too.
the demons failed miserably but a good time was had by all methinks.
the denver bulldogs took the flag this year so at least dogs supporters have a little something to be happy about.
http://www.denverbulldogs.com/
anyway, here are some random pix i took and a link to pix taken by one of the demons players.

Presentation night with Kevin Sheedy and Stephen Silvani.
a good one of Larz standing with soss and one of Kidney with his medallion and of course the great Kevin Sheedy.
flags were presented to the teams who were premiers over the previous 10 years and medallions were presented to outstanding players. Kidney being one of them.
also note the boston demons premiers in the second photo. hopefully to be serious contenders for the 2008 U.S. premiership

there's more on the way but here is the link to Damos page...

Good to see Sos and Sheeds doing their bit for the game abroad.
I notice a camera at the carnival. Any idea who that was and where the footage was to be used? _________________ "It would be great to be playing in finals and in teams that are winning all the time, but I chose to come to Richmond" - Nathan G. Brown |
