Go Willy!!

Go Werribee, Berto Castello kicked a bloody awesome goal in that 3rd qtr, great effort from the boys to stick with it when Willy threw everything at them.

Its great news Werribee now has the 2nd chance, who would have picked that at the start of the year.

Leigh Brown had another great game, Ben Davis(i think hes 34 anyway) had a great game, Thommo woohoo.

But poor Pods missing the leading goal kicker of the vfl by 1 goal(think it was 1 goal anyway) spewin, and for him to lose it to an arrogant pig in Nick Sautner hurts even more, but hey where playing finals footy from next week and im sure Pods wants that way more than to be the leading goal kicker.

North Melbourne listed players
Seniors

29.Goldstein- played a bit of a different role yesterday as he spent time both in the ruck and on a wing. Rotated through the ruck with Brown and finished with 15 hit outs, along with 16 disposals.

30.Greenwood- again played in defence and did some telling things including running down some Williamstown forwards/midfielders. I think he is better suited playing as a defender, but he has proven that he can play in either position and do so well. Finished the game with 18 disposals, 1 tackle, 1 block and 2 spoils.

31.Riggio- didn't dominate stats wise in comparison to last week and was held at different times yesterday by the Williamstown midfield. Still put in a decent performance, but was reported for rough conduct against O'Keefe in the second quarter.

32.Ross- played mostly in the midfield and a little bit on the wing, was consistent for the duration of the game. I still think he will won't be an inclusion in the AFL side come finals time. Had 21 disposals, 7 clearances and kicked a goal.

33.Brown- played all over the ground including stints in the midfield and up forward. Defensive pressure (4 tackles) was really good, worked hard at stoppages and finished with 23 disposals coupled with a goal.

34.Davies- an improved performance on last week, worked well with the rest of the midfield as he helped to set up some goals. Finished with 26 disposals, 1 clearance, 1 tackle, 2 spoils and a goal.

36.Scott Thompson- best on ground for his game in defence as he shut down Williamstown's forward line, tackled hard and also spoiled hard. Important cog in the Werribee defence as he accumulated 27 disposals running off his usual half back position.

40.Obst- played in his usual defensive role and was reliable, particularly with spoiling (4). Stopped a number of Williamstown's midfield and forward thrusts during the game.

72.Sinclair- dominated in the midfield with 28 disposals, 5 clearances and a goal. Didn't stop running and his delivery though the middle to the Werribee forwards was outstanding.

73.Nathan Thompson- a late inclusion for yesterday's game and it took many by surprise, including myself when I walked into our rooms after arriving at Burbank Oval. Kicked three goals and had 13 disposals in what was definitely a serviceable performance. He led well, was good around the packs and combined well with Podsiadly. An almost certain inclusion in the AFL side for week one of finals.

Scott Howard again played well in defence, continuing on his good form from last week's game. Had 25 disposals and did a mountain of work in effectively shutting down the Williamstown forward line at different stages.

Michael Barlow was again reliable in his role as a running midfield type and I definitely think he is a genuine chance of the Fothergill/Round medal for the VFL's best under23 player. Finished with 25 disposals, 2 clearances, 3 tackles and a goal.

Rob Castello applied plenty of defensive pressure with a team high 8 tackles and will be looking to continue such pressure application in the finals series.

Pods kicked three goals and combined very well with Nathan Thompson.

Note: Ben Warren and James Wilsen were both unlucky to be included in the final Werribee 22, but both were spotted sitting in the grandstand supporting the boys.

Good report there Benny, as much as it hurts me to say this but Jess Sinclair was pretty good.

Im hoping North Melbourne dont make to many changes this week, id rather the boys stay and play for Werribee :)

Unlucky to be included in the Senior 22? Surely, playing for Werribee can't be that bad? :P

doggies40- 08-31-2008

Haha i think he ment to include the word not inbetween unlucky and to.

By the way where were al lthe Werribee fans, i had 2 other ladies near me and that was it, had these williamstown supporters near me who had no idea what the hell was happening, and this was in the reserves game.

Then the seniors run out while Henry White was having a shot at goal after the siren, and they decided to tell the Werribee boys off for being out on the ground to do there warm up, yet when the Willy boys run out they said nothing.

And dont get me started on some of the frees they were complaining about, i was almost ready to go throw something at them(haha they may get a few laughs from certain people off this board)

But i suppose you dont see many Werribee fans when its a Willy home game, plus it was a freezing day and so dam windy.

Gulls denied pole position

WILLIAMSTOWN has been denied the VFL minor premiership after going down to arch rival Werribee on Saturday.

In a shock final round result, the Seagulls were beaten on their home soil in a hard-fought contest, 12.15 (87) to 14.14 (98).

The loss saw the Seagulls slip from top spot on the ladder and into third, which means instead of playing fourth-placed Werribee again in the first week of the finals, they will take on North Ballarat at a time and venue to be confirmed.

Continuing their rich vein of form in the second half of the season, the visiting Tigers stunned the Seagulls early. In a free-scoring first term, the Tigers kicked seven goals to five.

The Seagulls though hit back in the second when they kept their opponents goalless to take a nine-point lead into the half.

The Tigers broke the game open in the third quarter when they added another five goals to one and set up a 17-point break at the final change of ends.

The Seagulls outscored them in the last by not by enough to grab back the lead.

The Tigers' James Podsiadly and Nathan Thompson proved too much of a handful for the Seagulls in attack, the pair kicking three goals each.

Former Williamstown player Ben Davies provided plenty of drive through the middle.

Werribee's Flinn Chisholm is tackled by Williamstown's James Beaumont.

Williamstown's Peter Street was again the dominant ruckman, but, aside from the skipper Brett Johnson and maybe Liam Picken, his midfielders were largely beaten.

With the Seagulls' usually potent forward line well held, Johnson was the team's leading goalkicker with three while Jason Cloke provided an option. He kicked two.

The Seagulls, on top of the ladder for 10 weeks, will need to regroup quickly before the clash with the Roosters.

THERE was better news for Williamstown earlier in the day when the reserves reached the preliminary final after thrashing Box Hill in their qualifying final, 19.17 (131) to 10.16 (76).

Jess is straight back into the Noth Melbourne side this week.

Looks like we could possibly have big Hamish McIntosh back though.
