WCC Storm Vs Leeds
6:25am Yes I have left it a bit late to notify people but I figured those that cared would already know about it.. 'It' being the World Cup Challenge played between the NRL and English Super League Premiers. Cooper Cronk has been named captain and that's all it takes for me to watch haha but seriously, Storm could become the first NRL team to win this Cup in 5 years or so! The boys have had to put up with the British media saying they're already finding excuses for when they lose such as two trial games weighed against the Rhinos' four Super League fixtures; British refereeing; the absence of six players from the NRL grand final-winning team; jet lag; lost luggage, freezing temperatures; icy winds.... bugger off!! Anyways, It will be broadcast LIVE by Channel 9 (yeah I thought it was a joke too) at 6:25am Saturday (tomorrow) morning. Starting Team: 1. Billy Slater 2. Steve Turner 3. Will Chambers 4. Israel Folau 5. Anthony Quinn 6. Russ Aitken 7. Cooper Cronk 8. Jeff Lima 9. Matt Geyer 10. Brett White 11. Jeremy Smith 12. Ryan Hoffman 13. Dallas Johnson Interchange 4 from: Antonio Kaufusi, Adam Blair, Sam Tagataese, Sika Manu, Ben MacDougall, Aiden Tolman Coach: Craig Bellamy Join other Melbourne Storm Members and supporters at Steakout at Crown to see the World Club Challenge. Watch the Storm boys take on the English Champions Leeds Rhinos LIVE on the big screen for the right to be crowned World Club Champions! DATE: Saturday 1st March TIME: 6:00am, action starts at 6:25am VENUE: Steakout at Crown Entertainment Complex (Level 1, west end). Light breakfast menu and drinks will be available for purchase. Quite entertaining at times http://www.melbournestorm.com.au/default.asp?sec=25&ssec=1 Realy hope a few here get to watch it and I hope its not a crap game Crap would be us losing..Sh!t would be us losing by heaps!

Got home from the local just before 4am, slept for a bit then woke up to my alarm at 6:20am..of course I sent a msg to a few friends reminding them haha but doubt any of them paid attention esp. when one rang and asked for the final scores.. Leeds won 11 - 4 Ryan Hoffman scored our only try Biased commentating (clearly that was always going to happen) People say we wrestle but there were a few incidents where our guys were mauled but nothing done about it.. Was an alright game to watch and the guys never realy gave up lso good to see young spunky Will Chambers stand up for his teammate..if Quinn hadnt been dragging him back his 4 punches would've fully connected with jaw!

I know there is more money in English League but not too many players make the cross from Australia to England, and on a national level the Australian game is far superior. Disappointing therefore that Australian teams are constantly beaten by these English teams, especially the storm who have dominated the domestic league for two seasons in a row. Disappointing result but form all reports it was an entertaining game (no way I was getting up at 6 on a Saturday).

The big problem is that as long as the World Club Challenge will be played in February the bloody Poms will always win. The Australian standard in League is much higher (have you ever seen Australia-England, the Australian Supremacy is either Physical and Technical?), althought in England they pay better money (they pay in punds, if I was a League Player and thinking of my future I would probably spend a couple of years there), Australia is way better. The Storm lost 11-4 in a hard-fought game. They played without Greg Inglis (!) and Cameron Smith, arguably the two best of the best in the World in the two most important roles in League. Matt King is gone, and under his bushy head of hair he hides speed and skills no else has in the World. Leeds won with a good kicker in awful condition that penalized the passing game of the Storm. It was cold and muddy, perfect for them, not for the Storm. The Storm had an extremely young team. Still they managed to play a great game. Leeds had already played 4 games in the season, they had all the players available and in best state of form. The same game played in June, here in Australia, with Cameron Smith and Inglis, on a dry field would finish 50-0 for the Storm. And I know I am not bullshitting because Australia will hammer the Poms as soon as the Green and Gold will have the opportunity to do so. It's impossible to compare the two level of the games, whatever Brain McClennan says (all the respect for his 24-0 victory in 2005, but what else? Does he win anywhere else than Elland Road?), the Australian NRL is way better than Super League. From my point of view it's really unfair that they play the game so early in the year. I think it would be better even for the public if they played in May, when both teams are in their best monent of form. Please remember that the State of Origin is way toughter than any World Cup Challenge. It's a selection, ok, but no one of the English would match up with it.
