I think, for me, just doing honour to the Holy Number Seven and by doing so helping to assuage the pain that Dougie's departure brought me. I wonder how often in AFL history two players have played 300+ games consecutively in the same number?

Great to see some real thought going into some of these posts about the Great Scotty West. He's a champion, make no mistake, 7 time best & fairest, 5 time All Australian, should have won the Brownlow, but Woewoeful somehow pipped him over the line. I remember him back in 1993, a game against Essendon at Whitten Oval, and he bagged 6 goals that day, Danny Del-Re bagged 4 or 5 as well, Scotty was only 18, sensational performance. From that time, until the game against the Saints this year, he has been all class, the most consistant performer wearing the red white & blue i have ever seen, Granty & Hawkins were better, but Scotty more consistant, to keep up such a high level over so many years, just brilliant, and THATS what makes him a champion. He worked his guts out, diving in & under, not giving a shit about his safety, dishing the ball out, thats courage! We'll miss you Scotty, thanks for the many memories starting off wearng the number 14, then getting Douggies number, i'm hoping he hands that number over to Ward, a star in the making, a hard as nails one as well.
