The "I got it wrong about Cooney" thread
Ok, fess up, all those Cooney bashers over the time, this is for you to come and own up about bashing Cooney at any opportunity, those who thought and still think he's a lazy sod, or doesn't work hard enough etc etc crap, this is your time! Not only did he play under duress with OP last season, STILL finishing 3rd in the B&F that season, to playing with a busted knee cap, yet people still layed in the boots when he didn't blitz and kick 5 or 6 goals from the midfield. The young fella is a freak, a natural talented footballer, EASILY the pick of the bunch from the 2003 draft, will go down as a Bulldog great and BROWNLOW MEDALLIST, is a real chance to take home 2 Charlies this year. This is also a thread about players and kids that don't instantly become stars from the draft, even Kevin Sheedy labelled Cooney in 2003 before the draft as a superstar, and for the record - Adam is a younger Brownlow winner than CHRIS JUDD! Next on Adam's hit list, the Charlie Sutton, the Norm Smith! :hail:

Never did bag him.

i could bring up a certain 'trade adam cooney' thread, but better not...hehe I probably had my doubts at time, early in his career he seemed a bit lazy, not 100% committed, which he kind of admits himself, but I always believed that if he worked out his work attitude he would be awesome, sure am glad he worked it out! Will be a leader in our midfield for the next decade! Goooooo coooooooooney

Should have scored 28 votes the lazy sod ;)

interesting article by MS in the Herald-Sun today where he talks about how Adam Cooney is a good player, not a great player: In the end, Cooney did what needed to be done: he polled the most votes. There are no undeserving Brownlow winners, yet it needs to be remembered the medal goes to the man the umpires anoint as the best player from those eligible. The Bulldog midfielder is a highly-talented, exciting player, not yet great. He won with an outstanding first half of the season and a couple of games late that added five votes to his total, his only votes post-Round 12. To be fair to him, he carried a cracked kneecap through the final weeks. I suspect his reputation also suffers just a little from his failure to dominate a final, even allowing for Monday's revelation of extenuating circumstances. While Cooney's win was something of an anti-climax, he won plenty of admirers with his acceptance speech: the baby face, the humility, the earthy humour, the Burger Ring story. There was an encore yesterday when he was interviewed by Leon Wiegard at the Carbine Club after just two hours' sleep. Lots of innocence, flashes of dry humour. He's a likable young man with a long career ahead. Asked how he rated his chances going into the count, he said: "I was hoping maybe that I could finish top 10." Seems that Mike can't bring himself round to saying he was wrong either!! Full story here: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,24393446-19742,00.html

He does need to be more consistent. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet, which is exciting. Same can be said about Griff and many more of our boys. I feel an empire in the making.

Mike is an absolute goose in my opinion, he should just come out and say Cooney didn't deserve to win.

Mike is an absolute goose in my opinion, he should just come out and say Cooney didn't deserve to win. Just imagine how good Coons will be when he does become GREAT! Will be VEEEEERY interesting to see where Sheahan rates him in his top 50, especially after this luke warm article.

DoggyOutWest- 09-25-2008

Sheahan is like an old footballer. Been writing for too long, and he can't keep the readership without writing stuff that's more and more controversial by the day. Total hack. Told him so last time I saw him at Southbank. We don't have the same umpires every game. It's not as if the umpires just got together and said "Hey we like Coons, let's give him the Brownlow". Maybe it's the fact that most of the All Australian team this year are thugs, and they are all susceptible to a bit of dirty play, such as the likes of Scarlett. It's the best and fairest. A reason why Goodes polls why even if he gets low stats.
