Ayce Cordy is on his way to the Western Bulldogs under the father-son rule.
The Bulldogs were forced to use their first round selection at the AFL national draft on the 18-year-old after St Kilda bidded to use their first selection - no.13 overall - to secure the 202-centimetre ruckman/forward.
That forced the Bulldogs to use the next selection - no.14 overall - to get their man, who is widely admired for his athleticism.
Cordy is the son of former Bulldog Brian Cordy, who played 124 games for the club between 1981 and 1988.
Under bidding rules, once a club indicates its intention to draft a player under the father-son rule, other clubs - in reverse ladder order - have the option to bid for that nominated player.
If a bid is made, the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection to secure that player.
Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said he always thought the club would have to give up their first round selection on Cordy.
"We thought from early it the year it would be a first round pick," Eade said.
"I suppose it was just depending on where we finished on the ladder.
"The fact that we had pick 14 - we think it's a cheap buy for us. We think he's a 200-game player and he's great for us.
"I think this draft is really one for talls. Ayce is up there with the best of them. The fact we've got him now is fantastic."
Eade also admitted the Bulldogs were interested in trading for a tall forward this week, with Hawthorn's Tim Boyle on their radar.
Boyle missed a spot in Hawthorn's premiership team, with Lance Franklin, Jarryd Roughead and Mark Williams filling the key forward positions.
AFL trade week finishes on Friday.
