June 24, 2008
WEST COAST coach John Worsfold has played down last night's ugly on-air spat with Brad Hardie.
Worsfold said today he did not mean to question the Brownlow Medallist's character.
Speaking on Perth radio last night, Worsfold angrily lashed out when Hardie criticised West Coast's tactics and team selection in the wake of the club's humiliating 135-point loss to Geelong.
Worsfold told Hardie he was building a team that would be capable of premiership success and that it “takes special character to be part of a premiership team, unfortunately you weren't”.
When Hardie, who played in a WAFL premiership with South Fremantle but never tasted ultimate glory in the AFL, said: “We got to a prelim ... I died trying with the Bulldogs in 85;” Worsfold replied: “I would question that.”
Don't back down Worsfold because you are 100% correct, Hardie was a greedy bastard who cost us a spot in the 1985 Grand Final. He was to worried about his own ego & personal glory in the prelim against Hawthorn, and it cost us the game.
Hardie can not talk about anything to do with team play, because the cunt was never one of them at Footscray.
Died trying my ass, piss off Brad & take your Brownlow with you.

Brad Hardie did play his guts out for the club, i was there, and he was our best player at the time, his 1985 was remarkable, just brilliant.
He was ahead of his times, an attacking defender, ran the lines just unbelievably, and VERY much a team player.
Unfortunatly him & Malthouse had a run in, that famous jumper waving episode, we also had a massive chance in getting Brad back.
I mean, you tell me, do you put your most attacking defender on a champion in Leigh Matthews? such as putting Gilbee on the oppositions most dangerous forward, or do you put a Morris type on them.
Malthouse f##### up that day.
Was he trying to make an example out of Brad, during a Preliminary Final?

Honestly though, Mick wasn't a stupid idiot. He would of told Brad for this last quarter, just stick on Matthews and don't move. Everyone has to defend sometimes, you cann't use that excuse in my opinion.
Matthews kicked 4 goals in the last quarter, you cann't tell me that Brad would of just though 'oh well i'm an attacking player, it's only 4 goals he kicked'.
I still think Brad is to blame.
If you told Gilbee in the last quarter of a prelim this year to stick by your man, and not move at all, he would do it. Even though he is an attacking footballer, he would of listened to Rodney & done the team thing.

Thats fair enough, but if so, why on earth would you play your most attacking defender on a player like Matthews? We all know Hardie had next to no defensive side to his game, his offence outweight that by a mile, afterall, his first year in the VFL landed him the Brownlow, and boy, he was simply awesome, he even overtook Beasley as my favourite player at the time, and Beaser was sensational.
Getting back to Woohser, he was totally off the mark something cronic with bagging Brad because he didn't win a Premiership, brad did everything possible for the team to win one, unfortunatly we came across the equal, if not better than Brisbane of the 2000's in Hawthorn, players like Dunstall, Platten, Brereton, Matthews, Dippa, Ayres etc etc etc.
There are so many CHAMPIONS that never tasted the ultimate success, does that mean they can't comment about Premiership sides, or challenge Woosha as well? Some of the most brilliant players i have seen didn't have team success, they didn't play in a champion side, is that their fault? Is that Brads fault? Is he a lesser, or the other players lesser because of this?
Players such as Gray Ablett Snr, Tony Lockett, Doug Hawkins, Chris Grant, Robert Harvey, heck a player by the name of Bob Skilton also never had the ultimate success, i wonder if Woosha would have challenged one of these legends as well?
I'm certainly not putting Brad up in that company, although he was awesome in his 2 seasons at the Dogs, i rate him in the top 10 Bulldogs i have ever seen since the late 70's, but bloody hell Woosha, piss weak.
Answer the HARD QUESTIONS, you played in 2 Premierships, you bloody well SHOULD know how to answer questions from a NON Premiership player!
Brad Hardie was one if the most passionate players who ever put on the red, white & blue.
