yeah these are different than the one i made for you, metal underlying the front design with a metal pin back set in plastic, look heaps better but are a bit smaller.
yeah we plan on staying away from current player pics, sticking to slogans and the like instead

There are no copyright infringements here. We are careful never to use AFL logos or proprietary images. From what I understand the club doesn't produce any badges. They are made by a mother and son company out in the suburbs who do it for all teams.
In my opinion these are in no competition to those badges anyhow. The designs that they produce are always "profile style" whilst as you can see from the designed produced so far, these are more customised.
People who collect badges will always get their official club badges, this is just an added service to add some originality to their collections.

I support the idea maz, think its great thinking but you need to prepare yourself for qustions like this.
Any photo of a current player is under copywrite law so you need be carefull. I know better then anyone here what the club/afl will do in terms of copyright.
Any former player, after about 1998 would still have been copyrighted, but the club wouldnt give 2 ******** about them.
So if you work it out then it will work, but as ive said current players are hard to use unless you use private pics.
if its like the sam power one you made maz i dont no how well they will work if its made of a medal back then it would work well
OK, about copyright law for photographs.
Now, if you use a photograph taken by somebody else (ie the club, getty images, etc.) then it is indeed copyright and you'll be in trouble.
However! Using your own photograph, taken by you with your own camera means that the copyright is yours. Now, if you use that image (ie, use the player's face) to promote something or make a profit from it then the player themselves can sue you for not obtaining a model release when you took the shot.
Now, if you have photos of yourself with your favourite footballer, it'd take a kindergarten kid as your lawyer to defend you against some "lawsuit" the club would never be bothered to bring about anyway. So, I suggest, if you want to make badges of current players, do it at cost price (don't even charge labour) with your own photographs TAKEN BY YOU and don't mass-produce them, make them as custom requests.

If you took them, you can do what you want with them. If you didn't, it is up to the copyright owner of those photos to take action.
Look, seriously, that's not gonna happen. But if you DID want to be by the book, you'd have to request usage rights in writing to be able to use that photograph in a commercial sense. But it is up to the copyright owner to enforce their rights. For example, I couldn't sue you for using the photos taken by the club in 1976. The copyright owner (which isn't necessarily the club, but may be so) can.
