you will see me trying to stay out of the way in some of those pics.
We did not partake in the game, but the coach enlisted our help as runners (water boys - lol!)
seemed like a good group of guys and as the spider said I hope to be able to have a run with them next season for sure.
Superfan- 08-21-2007
That's fantastic! Are the guys who play mainly ex-pat Aussies?
amnesiac- 08-21-2007
Nice work guys. You might want to put in a pre-season to boost your fitness for your first pre-season!
Keep us updated.
barkingspider- 08-21-2007
yes. we met a few aussies.
the goalie was one of them and the captian addressing the squad at the end of the game is an aussie, the coach and quite a few players. a lot of americans too.
thanks amnesiac. absolutely pre season training needed for both of us.

Who are the US Revolution? Are they the US national side for AFL?

Who are the US Revolution? Are they the US national side for AFL?
The Revolution is an All-Star team of Americans from around the country playing Australian Football and competing with national teams from around the world.
thanks for asking that question amnesiac. i just learned something...and yes, it does look like severe pain..... :frustrate:
speaking of which... the weather forecast here still predicts 89 fahreinheit for saturday....errrr
amnesiac- 08-23-2007
That comes out to be a lovely 32 degrees. Well lovely if your playing cricket maybe. Hope there's a nice cool breeze.
Good luck with it and we expect a full run down on Sunday (if you can get out of bed)!
barkingspider- 08-24-2007
no problema amnesiac will do. supposed to be humid too. yuk.
i run 4 miles 4 times a week up and down hills, rain hail or shine and i was sore as ten men the next day. couldn't figure out why. i'm sure boston pat was too. we pretty much ran all day and kicked the football around in between breaks so we didn't really stop.
the reason methinks for that is you are using a different group of muscles. eg: bending and scooping up the ball, taking marks, rapid bursts of running, etc so those muscles are not used to it.
anyway, hopefully a bit better this sunday....
Boston Pat- 08-25-2007
I had my boys (9 & 7) in tow so I didn't pitch in much. But Hell, Mark was a machine. It ain't glamorous work, but running water on a day like today was essential and He did a super solid job.
Dees crushed the Hawks from Philadelphia.
barkingspider- 08-26-2007
VICTORY for the dees... yes :D they did well on a blazingly hot day!
dees: 16 goals something
hawks: 4 goals something
no scoreboards at these games and i was too buggered to chase down the coach. plus he gets asked too many questions anyway...
well, it was definately a home ground advantage with lots of dees on the bench. the poor old hawks from philly only had about 4 and with one injury in to the 2nd quater i think it was and he had to come off and not take any more part in the game.
the dees got the jump on them early not giving the hawks much room to breathe and kept the pressure up througout the game. acurate kicking and good marking got the ball in to the dees forward line which usually resulted in a goal. agressive tackling and sheparding helped the cause too.
they had about 8 or so players on the interchange and coach "skills" was rotating them on a regular basis througout the game. it's a luxury the hawks didn't have.
it was a very impressive effort given the conditions
the hawks looked flat having just gotten off a plane from philly and not having much time to get used to the stifling heat. they looked a bit rattled.
with only 4 on the interchange, i imagine all the players were tired and take nothing away from them, they tried hard but they would have been pretty worn down by the last quater.
havn't got names for credits as i don't know many at this stage..
i guess today, every player will be sore and drained. i know i am and all i did was run water. plus the fact that i'm as old as a goat dosn't help either :P
yesterdays high was 97 farenhight (did i spell that correctly?) 36 celcius.
luckily the humidity wasn't too bad.
boston pat and the boys and myself played kick to kick during the breaks and thoroughly enjoyed it. who knows, his boys might become star american afl players one day. they're good kids
he took some excellent pictures too. will post later if it's ok with him. (copywrite you know :P )
anyway, here are mine. not very good as they were taken in between water fills. more like spray and pray shots..
